Bewdley Development Trust

All the activities at Bewdley Development Trust are driven by our core objectives as follows:

Environment & Heritage

Bewdley is a historic, riverside town surrounded by attractive and valuable countryside and villages. BDT will work to maintain an attractive, clean and safe environment and make the most of its natural and built heritage for the benefit of the community and visitors.

Sustainable Tourism

BDT will build on Bewdley's unique position between the River Severn and the Wyre Forest, close to the West Midlands conurbation and also a gateway to the Marches, to develop sustainable tourism and related businesses. BDT will work with its neighbouring towns and villages in the Severn Valley corridor to achieve this.

Improving Quality of Life

BDT will work to develop better amenities, facilities and cultural activities for all sectors of the community.

Affordable Housing

BDT will encourage the provision of affordable housing for the benefit of the community.

Economic Well Being

BDT will work to develop Bewdley as a town with a healthy economy, incorporating a range of businesses, shops and services, which attract good levels of spending from both local and rural residents and visitors. We will encourage the development of start up businesses and teleworking, particularly in the IT and creative sectors. We will encourage initiatives to improve skills, increase job opportunities, boost the local economy and maximise economic benefits. BDT envisages Bewdley to be a town in which forward thinking individuals, businesses and organizations invest in high quality education and training for all ages.

Improving Access

BDT will support actions which make the town safer and easier to access for residents and visitors, those with disabilities, those with and without cars, cyclists and pedestrians. We will develop a range of opportunities for recreational walking, cycling and water related activities.

Sustainable Environment

BDT will research, develop and promote ways to conserve, enhance and interpret the natural and built environment in and around Bewdley. We will encourage ways of reducing the negative impacts of human activity on climate change and biodiversity.

Securing Grants

BDT will work to secure grants to support projects furthering any of the above objectives.
